Mt. McKinley – these first 2 pictures were taken from McKinley Express Train bringing us into Denali National Park.

Mount McKinley or “Denali” meaning “The High One”- named by the Koyukon Athabaskan people who lived there, is 20,320 ft. above sea level making it the highest peak in North America & the United States
-
-
Denali is six million acres of wild land with one road going through it – famous “Mt. McKinley”, or “Denali” as Alaskans named it, is in the background.
-
-
In late 1890s, a gold prospector named it “McKinley” for then-president William McKinley. The Alaska Bd. Of Geographic Names changed it to Denali. Thus “Denali” is correct according to the Alaska State Bd., but “McKinley” is correct according to the National Bd.

These last 3 pictures of “Denali” were taken at a stop along the road as we traveled through Denali. We were very fortunate as they say only 25% of travelers actually get good views of it with all its cloud cover.

Horse back riding in the Tundra was fun – the hardest part for me, since shall we say, I am vertically challenged – I needed a step to stand on to get on the horse!!!
