Casa Loma, located in midtown Tonronto, was the residence of Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. The former mansion is now a museum & landmark.
-
-
Built over a 3 year period beginning in 1911, it has 98 rooms & was the largest private residence in Canada.
-
-
The third floor now serves as the Regimental Museum for the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada. Pellatt, a rifleman, rose through the ranks & eventually became the Commanding Officer.

Due to financial difficulties during the depression, Sir Henry Pallat was forced to auction off $1.5 million in art & 250,000 in furnishings
-
-
The city eventually seized Casa Loma for back taxes. In 1937 it was leased by the Kiwanis Club of Toronto
-
-
In 2011 the City reached a settlement with the Kiwanis Club & will resume management of the mansion
-
-
Today, after a 15 year exterior restoration, it is one of Toronto’s most popular tourist attractions.

Yukon Dawson Permafrost Bldg. Permafrost forms as Frost melts when heated bldgs are put on frozen ground, mixing water & soil to form fluid muck & the different footings settle at different rates. These bldgs. date back to 1901 & no restoration measures have been taken so visitors may see history as it naturally unfolds
